How to use knotted hair ties?

These cute knotted hair ties are also great as gifts or as an identical group accessory for sisters, cousins or for your daughter and her friends. This way, everyone will know they are tied together as friends.

Even better: if she ever gets bored with a tie color, she can always unknot the bow and move it onto a different tie or other hair accessory.

Tips for selecting the right fabric for the knotted hair ties

  • Choose medium to lightweight fabrics. Avoid bulky materials that will make it difficult to tie or shape the bow.
  • Try using different types of fabric for a unique look and texture. Cotton, linen, fat quarters are just some examples of fabrics you can experiment with.
  • Consider the print and pattern on the fabric. A smaller pattern or solid color may be more suitable compared to a large print.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix and match fabrics to create contrast or complementary colors. It’s a great way to add interest and variety to your hair ties collection.

Suggestions for color combinations and patterns

The options are endless when it comes to creating unique and personalized knotted hair ties. Let your imagination run wild and have fun experimenting with different fabrics, patterns, and colors. Here are some suggestions:

Durability and care instructions for the hair ties

To ensure your knotted hair ties last for a long time, here are some tips on how to care for them:

  • Hand wash or machine wash with cold water and gentle detergent.
  • Air dry or tumble dry on low heat to avoid shrinking.
  • Iron at a low temperature if needed, avoiding the elastic band.

With proper care, these hair ties can last through multiple uses and washes. So go ahead and make a few to match different outfits or gift them to friends and family!

How to add more interest to your knotted hair ties?

  1. You can use different fabrics for the two sides of the bows, so don’t worry if you only have small pieces and you can’t use them to cut out both sides. You can use complementing or contrasting fabrics, it’s up to you and your own taste.
  2. Instead of pointy ends, you can make them round or rectangular. They would look just as cute, but you will have many different hair bows in many styles. No matter how you make them, these pretty knotted hair ties will add some color to any hair style.
  3. Take these cute knotted hair ties to the next level by adding pretty buttons, sequins, glitter or anything that can make them unique.
  4. You can also knot two bows on the same tie for a fuller look.
  5. Also, make them in velvet, satin or sequin fabric for a more festive look, for example for holidays, parties or special days.
  6. You can also knot these bows on a hair scrunchie, a clip or a headband. Make them a little longer to give the impression of a small scarf tied around a ponytail. They look great and are of huge effect. In this case, it’s better to make the bow from the same fabric as the scrunchie.

I just hope you enjoy this quick project as much as I did and that you decided to make your own cute hair ties. Please let me know me how you feel about making these lovely hair essentials in the comments section below.
