Rainbow Friendship Bracelets + a Free Printable

March is here, which means St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. It’s a great time for some festive projects for the whole family, so today I want to share a quick and easy kids’ craft that the little crafters in your life can make to share with their friends. When I think about St. Patrick’s Day, three main things come to mind: shamrocks, leprechauns, and rainbows. Here’s a way to turn a rainbow into a wearable bracelet…take a look at this video, or scroll down for a photo tutorial.

You’ll need:

elastic cord

assorted colored beads (ours were faceted Kids Crafts beads)

alphabet beads (optional)

scissors

printable tag

thin ribbon

Step 1: Cut a piece of elastic cord that is 1″ longer than the circumference of your wrist.

If you’re making these for others, a good guide is that kids from ages 6-8 typically have a wrist size between 5-5.5,” kids ages 8-10 typically range from 5.5-6″, and kids ages 10-13 range from 6-6.5.” A teen’s (and an adult woman’s wrist) ranges from 6.5-7.”

Step 2: String beads onto the elastic cord.

You can put them in any pattern or order you like. Also, feel free to incorporate alphabet beads, which let you personalize the bracelet’s with someone’s name or initials. String enough beads to fully circle the wrist.

Step 3: Tie the elastic cord and trim the ends.

I like to tie at least three knots to make sure the cord doesn’t come undone. Then, I trim the excess and tuck the knot inside one of the beads.

Step 4: Download, print, and cut the free printable tags.

They’re sized to print on an 8.5 x 11″ sheet of paper or cardstock, 8 tags to a page. You can download the page here.

Step 5: Attach a tag to each bracelet with ribbon.

Punch a hole in the tag, then tie the tag and bracelet together with a narrow piece of ribbon. I chose green for St. Patrick’s Day.

It’s that simple! These rainbow bracelets are quick and inexpensive to make, and are a fun way for kids to share a little joy with friends on St. Patrick’s Day.

What do you think? Are there little crafters in your life who would enjoy creating these to give away?
