Today I’m excited to announce a project that I’ve been working on for a few months now! I’m going to be hosting a Quilt Along for my Santa’s Hat Shop Pattern.
I know that you may be accustomed to Christmas quilt along starting much earlier (some as early as May), but this year I thought I’d do something a bit different.
About the Quilt Along
Personally, I love to sew with Holiday fabrics. I REALLY love to sew with Holiday fabrics during the corresponding holiday season. It’s the end of October right now, and I’ve been going crazy sewing with Halloween fabrics!
I thought a little Christmas project might help us all get into a “festive” mood for the upcoming season. I also think that since so many things are different this year, the Christmas season may not be as packed and busy as many of us are used to, and a fun project might be a welcome distraction. (Since many are not hosting their normal school programs, church concerts, etc.).
If you’re not “up” for making an entire quilt, I have some options for you too!
This quilt along will start in November. The dates will be listed below. It will run for five weeks and will be finished before Christmas.
Where to Get the Santa’s Hat Shop Pattern
For this quilt along, we will be using my Santa’s Hat Shop pattern. I really love this pattern because it gives you so many options and ideas all in one pattern.
- It can be traditionally pieced OR foundation paper pieced
- You can include the JOY lettering on the quilt or substitute it for more Santa Hats
- In addition to the Santa Hat Blocks, it includes instructions for Party Hat Quilt blocks as well.
- The blocks can be used to make several other projects, including table runners & pillows.
- Comes in Digital (PDF) and Printed formats

Christmas Quilt Along Bonus Projects
As a part of this quilt along, I am sharing a free extra quilt block pattern. This Santa’s Belt quilt block is the same size as the Santa Hat blocks and can be used to “mix” into your quilt design.
You can also use the block to create a pillow or table runners. The pattern for this block will be posted here and emailed to you on the date shown below.
There also “might” be another surprise block; we will have to see how the planning for that one goes 🙂
If you do not want to make an entire quilt, OR you also want to make a matching pillow, I will share a tutorial detailing how to make this Christmas Bench Pillow using the blocks from the pattern. The bench pillow measures 14″ x 36″ and can be quilted or left unquilted.
Fabric Selection & Requirements
For my projects, I’ll be sewing with Santa Claus Lane fabrics. It’s my newest fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs and features lots of bright and happy Christmas prints. You can still find it in stores and online.
Here is the quilt mocked up in the greens and reds from the line. My sample quilt is made with an aqua background, but I think I might love the green even more.
To keep things simple for this quilt, we will be making the version without the JOY blocks.

- 1 Yard White Fabric
- 1 1/2 Yards Blossom; Green Smoothie
- 3/4 yard Santa Print; Green
- 1/2 Yard Poinsettia Print; Red
- 1 1/2 yards Tree Print; Green
- 1/2 Yard Tree Print; Red
- 2 1/2 Yards Christmas Lights Print; Green
- 1/2 Yard Christmas Lights Print; Red
- 1/2 Yard Candy Cane Print; Red
- Binding: 1/2 Yard Green & Red Stripe
You can make the quilt out of any fabric collection that you like. The pattern lists more options & variations on fabric combinations.

First of all, you do not HAVE to sign up. (You do need to buy a pattern, as the pattern is way too involved and detailed to be posted and understood as an online tutorial). You can follow along with the blog articles posted during the quilt.
