What a year 2020 has been!  Not being able to see friends and neighbors in person has been hard.  I love having fun wreaths on my door and this year I wanted something different than the one I traditionally hang up. I wanted the wreath to be bright and fun and something that would make you smile.

I’ve loved making rainbow crafts this year, so I had to include some fun rainbows. I buy multi colored yarn and just unravel it into it’s individual colors for each rainbow piece. Then my yarn coordinates and I don’t have to buy multiple skeins.

I also made some easy paper stars to add some more fun elements to the wreath. You can make these by hand, but I love scoring with my Cricut machine for easy folding.

This is not your traditional wreath, but I love that I can keep this up all winter to help brighten some of the long, dreary days ahead.

Rainbow Holiday Wreath

Wreath base (my exact one isn’t online, but in stores)
Holiday Picks: I chose pink, blue, purple and gold floral sprigs and picks
Mini Rainbows (Tutorial below)
Paper Stars (Tutorial Below)
Hot glue gun and glue
Floral Wire

Instructions

Add the holiday sprigs to your wreath. Make sure to spread them out evenly around the wreath base. You can either attach them with hot glue or floral wire, or even bend the bottom of the sprig to secure it in the wreath.

Once you are satisfied with your sprig placement, add your other design elements such as the rainbows and stars. I like to arrange all of the items before I secure them to see if I like how they are placed.

Mini Rope Rainbows Supplies:

Yarn
Rope
Hot glue gun and glue

Instructions:

Since I wanted to make small rainbows, I unraveled my rope into 3 individual strands.  Cut a piece of the rope 2.5 inches long.

Unravel your yarn into separate colors. I like to wrap around my hand until I reach the next color and then trim.  This is so you have separate colors of yarn for each rainbow piece. You won’t need all of the yarn you have unraveled.

wrapping yarn for rope rainbow

Begin wrapping your piece of rope, making sure to tuck your tail under so it is wrapped by the yarn. Also make sure to leave a piece or rope out at each end to unravel for the rainbow “ends”. Tie a knot when you reach the end of your rope and secure with a dot of glue if desired.

Bend your rope into a rainbow shape and then measure your next piece of rope by placing it over the first piece of wrapped rope and trimming.  Repeat the process of wrapping your yarn.  Then repeat the process again with a third piece.

Once you have your three pieces of rope wrapped with yarn, use your hot glue to secure them. Starting with the smallest piece, bend it into a rainbow shape and then carefully glue the middle piece and finally the last piece. I usually have some hot glue on the back of my rainbows, but I don’t mind since its the back. You could add a piece of cut felt to hide the glue if desired.

Paper Star Supplies:

Cricut Machine*
Cardstock
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun and Glue

You can also cut and fold the stars by hand, I just use my machine to speed up the process.

Instructions:

Open the Design Space file found HERE. These are for 3 inch stars. You can also adjust the size if desired.

Click on Make It. Select the number of stars you want to make by changing the copies in the left top corner. Each star is 2 squares. The machine will prompt you to load your scoring tool, and then fine tip blade.

Cutting paper stars with the Cricut

Remove your squares and fold and unfold along all the scoring lines.
Use your scissors to cut about half way up on the straight lines (not the diagonal ones). Then fold in the corners at each diagonal line.

Folding paper stars

Use your glue to glue each point together, one flap overlapping the other flap.

How to glue paper stars

Repeat all the steps with your other square and then glue both stars together making sure to offset them.
