As an avid crafter, there really isn’t a medium I haven’t experimented with at some point or another. So I am always looking for the next big craft supply that I can play around with. Then came Sculpey liquid and I just had to give it a try! It has all the awesomeness you love about polymer clay, but this thinner liquid version is perfect for using with molds to create unique and intricate shapes easily that just wouldn’t be possible with the firmer solid clay. After lots of experimenting with different molds, I became obsessed with a lace silicone mold and used it to create these DIY Sculpey Liquid Clay Lace Flower Vases! Just look at that detail! And yes, that “lace” is actually baked Sculpey liquid clay!

As you can see, they have several different colors that you can use, and you can even make your own colors with alcohol ink, colored chalk, or glitter! I ended up using black and white liquid Sculpey to create black, white, and ombre lace clay.

Materials to make your own DIY Sculpey Liquid Clay Lace Flower Vases:

Begin by squeezing out a generous portion of liquid Sculpey over the lace mold.

Then use the squeegee to scrape and pull the clay into all the nooks.

At this point you can add glitter or alcohol inks to your liquid clay in the mold like the white clay I added alcohol inks to below.

For the ombre effect show, I pulled the squeegee across the clay to spread out the alcohol ink colors to blend them a bit into the white Sculpey liquid.

Once your mold is filled and the top is scraped clean with the squeegee, place your mold on an oven safe baking sheet and bake at 275F for 15 min. For clear Sculpey liquid, be sure to bake at 300F for a more transparent look.

Once baked and cooled, remove the lace clay from the mold. As you can see, it comes out easily and cleanly!

The final step is to measure the length of your vase and cut the clay lace to size (just regular scissors work perfectly!). Then use dabs of super glue to attach the clay to the vase. Once dry your vases are ready for flowers!

I love the victorian look to these vases and love even more that they can be handwashed without damaging the clay.

This lace technique can also be used on candle votive holders. Or create clay lace earrings by cutting the baked clay into any shape and adding an ear hook!
