Hello creative friends! Today we’re sharing this fun craft idea for making wall art using an old thrifted picture frame and some painted wood heart cutouts to resemble a leafy wreath.
A Simple DIY Framed Art Piece with Wood Heart Cutouts
Having recently picked up a bunch of heart shaped wood cutouts at the Dollar Store, I put them to use with this fun craft. Although initially it was made for Valentine’s Day, I love that by painting the hearts in various shades of fresh greens, the finished piece will look great throughout the Spring and Summer. And actually, now that I look at the hearts from a distance, I see they almost look like little clovers, just in time for St Patrick’s Day.

How to Make this Craft using Wood Heart Cutouts
You can check out the video of me making this craft on a recent Facebook Live video here or continue reading for the step by step instructions below.
Paint the wooden picture frame in a light paint color such as white or cream and let it dry.
Paint the wooden hearts different shades of green and let it dry. To prevent them from sticking to your surface, it’s best to place them on top of parchment paper while painting.
Once the paint on the frame is dry, take some sandpaper and lightly sand the frame for a distressed look.
Next, place a large disc oo some other circle shape on a piece of scrap paper and using a sharpie, trace a circle shape. This will be the guide for the heart wreath.
Insert the glass into the frame and center it over top of the large circlle shape.
Using the hot glue gun, glue the biggest painted wooden hearts around the circle on the glass.
Then glue the smaller painted wooden hearts on top of every other large heart.
Apply some Mod Podge to some remaining small hearts and then sprinkle some diamond dust on top to give them some sparkle and texture. Let them dry.
Glue the dusted painted hearts to the wreath and let dry.
As an option, artificial or burlap flowers can be glued to the wreath.
Cut some burlap and create a large, full bow with it. Using the hot glue gun, glue it to the wreath in th upper left corner.
And with that, the craft is complete and ready to be hung on the wall and enjoyed!
