What’s the Best Thing about Puff Pastry Kielbasa Sausage Roll-Ups?

Because I am an on the go mom, the easier the recipe the better!  This recipe is great because it is a finger food that only requires four ingredients.  In addition, if you desire food that is quick and easy to make this is the perfect treat! When I take them to a party or BBQ they don’t last because they are such a tasty bite-size morsel.

To make this Great Finger Food you Need

Equipment

  • Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F to ensure the pastry can develop its crispy flaky texture.
  • Baking Sheet: An air bake cookie sheet works great when baking the Puff Pastry Kielbasa Sausage Roll-Ups.
  • Non-stick spray or parchment paper: So your roll-ups don’t stick to the pan prepare it with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper.
  • Pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut pastry: When cutting puff pastry a circular pizza cutter or sharp knife works great. Don’t use a serrated knife or you could tear the pastry.
  • Sharp knife to cut Kielbasa sausage: To make the perfect pieces of Kielbasa sausage, cut the sausage with a sharp straight-edged knife.
  • Pastry brush: Use a pastry brush to brush the egg wash onto the roll-ups. I like to use a silicone pastry brush because the egg wash releases easily from the bristles. Silicone brushes are also easy to clean up!

Ingredients

  • Kielbasa sausage: Select a Kielbasa Sausage you like.  If you have a local store that carries homemade Kielbasa sausage give that a try.
  • Frozen puff pastry: When selecting frozen puff pastry read the ingredient list because some are made with butter and others with shortening. I like to use the buttery pastry. Also, be sure to read the thaw and use instructions of the selected pastry to ensure the puff pastry raises properly.  You can reference All Recipes for some great tips on working with frozen puff pastry.
  • An Egg: The egg and water will be used to make an egg wash to brush onto the pastry.
  • Water: Use water mixed with one whole egg to make your egg wash. When water is used in an egg wash your pastry will develop a light brown glossy appearance.

How Do you Make puff pastry Kielbasa Sausage Roll-Ups?

First off…begin by finding your favorite brand of Kielbasa. My local store carries a homemade one in their house of meats, so I tried that!

half inch slices of Kielbasa sausage on a cutting board

Using a sharp knife, cut the Kielbasa sausage on the horizontal into pieces (approximately 1/2 inch thick). Set the Kielbasa sausage slices to the side.

Next, cut out small strips of your puff pastry sheets. The strips should be large enough to wrap around the slices of sausage allowing for overlap of the pastry when it comes together.

Then roll each piece of sausage with a strip of the puff pastry and place it on a prepared baking sheet.

After they are all rolled up, make an egg wash and brush it over each roll-up. The sausage should just peek out of the openings of the rolled pastry.

Serve these tasty treats with a dipping sauce such as a tangy sweet and sour sauce, barbeque sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce. Your guests won’t be able to get enough of them.

Tips:

  • Dampen your pastry brush with water before dipping in the egg wash will keep the egg wash from coagulating on the brush.
  • You can add flavor and texture to these roll-ups. Try adding a small slice of Swiss or sharp white cheddar cheese before rolling the Kielbasa sausage in the pastry.
  • You can use a leaner sausage like turkey Kielbasa or another sausage you enjoy.
