Making Pretty Mason Jar Luminaries
I came across a big, fat hardcover book in my craft room full of pressed hydrangea blooms that I had collected the year before. Having completely forgotten I had them, you can imagine how happy I was to find them!
We often use pressed flowers in our crafts, for making pressed petal and rock vase wall art, resin magnets and resin jewelry with pressed flowers and other projects (isn’t this pressed flower lantern amazing???). Now all I had to do was think of a new way to use these pretty finds.
Not knowing exactly how these would turn out, I decided to try making some pretty mason jar luminaries using Mod Podge.
I tried two different methods. The first method worked out perfectly with the flowers glued directly on to a clear glass jar. The second method, of glueing the pressed hydrangeas on to a chalky painted jar, didn’t turn out as I imagined. They looked dirty and kind of gross so I scraped the painted jars and made a few extra of the clear jar luminaries.
These pressed flower luminaries turned out so beautifully. They would absolutely be a great mason jar craft you could sell.
Materials Needed:

- Mason Jars in assorted sizes, smooth, with lids
- Mod Podge in glossy finish
- Paint brush, ½” angled
- Acrylic paints in soft purple (or coordinating hydrangea color)
- Paint brush, 2” angled
- Pressed hydrangeas
- Twine or natural decorative ribbon
How to Make Luminaries with Mason Jars and Pressed Flowers:
Thoroughly wash jars with soap and hot water and let them dry completely before using.
Working small sections at a time, apply Mod Podge to the surface of the smaller 8oz jar.
Gently place one pressed hydrangea on top of the glued area and press down.
Seal the hydrangea in place with another coat of Mod Podge over top.
Continue adding one pressed hydrangea at a time on to the glass, overlapping the other flowers for more coverage. Cover the entire jar and then leave the glue to dry fully.
Tie a piece of twine around the neck of the jar and fill jars with candles, flowers or candies and enjoy.
They even look pretty on their own without any candles but look how they glow with a small lit votive candle inside!

Pretty Pressed Flower Mason Jar Luminary
Materials

- Pressed hydrangeas

Instructions

- On the larger 12oz jar, paint the surface in a soft purple acrylic paint. Let the paint dry fully before proceeding.
- Tie a piece of twine around the neck of the jar and fill jars with candles, flowers or candies and enjoy.
