Let’s all welcome May!

I love May. It’s a feeling of culmination as school comes to a close, spring starts to turn to summer, and we have lots to look forward to. Also, we really get to see the power of Map My Month in action!

If you’re new to Map My Month, read on! And if you’ve been following along, participating, and (hopefully) enjoying it, welcome back.

Psst — if you love this idea be sure to check these out too:

Why Monthly Journaling?

Every January, we are so energized with the idea of a fresh start, a new year, and endless possibilities.

Which I love! But it’s also a slippery slope into that whole “new year, new me” attitude.

And here’s the thing.

Opening up a new calendar doesn’t make you a new you. You are the same wonderful you that you have always been. You don’t need a new you!

What a new year does, though, is to provide the mindset of a fresh start. It feels like a book with unwritten pages, and the chance for you to create the story for yourself.

It also provides a beautiful opportunity to dream. To look inward and discover the things that you really want, and what types of goals you hold in your heart.

So instead of just getting into that mindset at the start of the year and then seeing it gradually fade after a few weeks, these Map My Month journaling pages are like a monthly fresh outlook.

It’s a great space to create for yourself monthly to look ahead with fresh eyes and set new intentions.

Each month, on the 1st, I create and share a free downloadable guided worksheet. (You can download it at the end of the post.)

The monthly prompts will be the same, but we’ll focus on a different prompt each month and really dive deep on one of them. It’s a way to look at each question in a new way, and perhaps discover something you didn’t realize about yourself.

I’m so excited to see how our responses shift and change over the course of the year.

May’s Map My Month Focus: Letting Go

In April’s Map My Month we focused on a positive contribution in our lives. We searched for one thing we already do that makes a positive difference in our lives, and made an effort to lean into that thing.

This month, our focus is letting go.

As you work on your Map My Month worksheet this month, give a little extra thought to the portion that asks: One thing I’d like to let go of this month.

As you consider it, explore the parts of your life that you may be holding onto a little too tightly, for one reason or another.

It could be a goal that no longer serves you. Perhaps it’s a judgement or idea about something or someone. Maybe it’s guilt or shame. It could even be a habit or a relationship that isn’t the healthiest.

As you think of this thing, understand that it can be a long and hard process to let go. But once you’re focused on something that isn’t serving you, it becomes easier to envision letting it go, and that’s the first step.

And after you let go, it can be amazing to welcome the space that opens up in your brain.

Here’s what to do next. Find a quiet space for yourself, and get into a mindset of openness and possibility. Go through the rest of the prompts on the worksheet, using as much time as you need.

If you plan on participating in Map My Month each month, I suggest you get a binder or a folder to keep all of your worksheets in one place. You can look back at your progress and reference past months’ Maps to see how your year is progressing.

You could even add it to your Intention Blueprints binder if you did those last year!

Share Your Thoughts

I’d love to know your thoughts on the Map My Month series — good, bad, or otherwise!

Prompts like these can encourage us to think in new patterns or explore new ideas. I find that it can be a challenge to face some of what comes up when you really dive deep in this way, but it’s so worth it. It’s a great exercise to stay intentional and purposeful with our days.

Enjoy! xoxo
