Go on and gather those fallen acorns to make your own set of fun and festive acorn jewelry plus more acorn craft ideas to try this Fall.
Crafting with Acorns
With all the acorns that dropped from my large oak tree, I’ve done my share of acorn crafts this year. Many of those crafts I even shared on recent Facebook Live videos such as the making of this DIY acorn garland and even this reversible driftwood wall decoration.
Preparing Acorns for Crafting
Before you jump in and start, be sure to prep the acorns for crafting to prevent them from rotting or getting buggy over time. The easiest way to do this is by placing the foraged acorns inside a baking dish to bake at 220F-240F for 1 hour. Remove them from the oven and let them cool before handling.

How to Make Acorn Jewelry (and keychains):
We shared the tutorial for making acorn jewelry on a recent Facebook Live video which you can find here. Or continue reading below for the step-by-step photo tutorial.
To start, remove the cap of the acorn and put them aside. Using the multi-surface paint and a small paintbrush, paint the acorn in any color of your choosing. We stuck with Halloween-themed colors for our jewelry. Add another 2-3 coats of paint for more coverage, leaving paint to dry fully between coats.
Next, create faces on the painted acorns using a fine tip marker.
Take the tops of the acorns and drill a small hole in the top.
With the hot glue gun, glue a jewelry eyelet in the drilled hole.
If you are making the earrings, consider drilling a hole on the top of the acorn nut and carefully scooping out the seed. This will help to keep the earring lightweight!
Next, glue the acorn cap back on to the painted acorn.
Using the pliers, use jewelry rings to connect the eyelet with the earring hardware or a chain link if making a kaychain.
And with that, my acorn earrings are complete and ready to wear! I think they are adorable.
If you rather make a keychain, use the plier to open the other end of the chain link and attach it to a keychain ring. You can add a cluster of three like we did here or just keep it to one acorn.
