Making a Row House Craft Stick Ornament

This colorful craft with jumbo craft sticks is a fun way to get excited for the days we can travel again! Make you own row house ornament with just a few supplies you likely have at home.

Making Popsicle Stick Ornaments

Seeings how we’ve been in a stay-at-home order for more than 4 weeks and will continue to be for at least another 3 weeks here {sigh} in South Western Ontario, thoughts of times when we can once again travel are starting to surface.

And since one of my all-time dream vacations is to go to Newfoundland, I found myself inspired to make a jellybean row house ornament. In one of the most popular areas of St John’s, Newfoundland are row upon row of vibrantly colored houses that gives the area its distinct character. So until we’re once again able to visit these far-off places, I say we craft about them!

Making this row house ornament was really easy and a lot of fun. Although I used jumbo craft sticks, regular stized popsicle stick would also work just fine! In fact, we also have a few other popsicle stick craft ideas to check out:

Materials Needed to Make a Row House Ornament:

• Jumbo popsicle sticks, x5
• Regular sized popsicle sticks, x2
• Paint brush, ½” angled
• Acrylic paints in red, blue, turquoise, teal, yellow and black
• Paint pens in white and black
• Clippers
• Wood glue (or hot glue gun with clear glue sticks)
• Cotton rope for hanging
• Drill and drill press

Making a Row House Craft Stick Ornament:

Using a pair of clippers, cut the curved ends of the jumbo popsicle sticks and discard.

Paint each one of popsicle sticks in a different color and let them dry.

• 

• 

Paint a portion of the end of the sticks in black (this will be the roof of the houses).

Using a white paint pen, paint rectangular shapes to resemble windows and doors on to the painted sticks.

Once dry, use a black paint pen to draw the window frames and outline the doors as shown.

• 

• 

Turn the sticks painted side down with the cut edges aligned and glue the smaller popsicle sticks across the back at the top and bottom to hold the sticks together.

Drill holes at the top of the two end sticks (houses) and tie a piece of cotton rope for hanging. 

And with that, the craft stick ornament is complete and ready to hang. I’ve placed mine on the wall in my craft room to remind me of future travels and adventures.
