Where did summer go? I was talking to a friend the other day and her kids go back to school this week! It’s not even August yet! Our school year starts later in the PNW (not until September) because the powers that be know that we want to eke out every ounce of sunlight we get here before the dark rainy seasons get here. I love that late start after the waning days of summer.
I’ve said it before in posts, but back to school photos are one of my favorite things on the whole internet. I love excited little kids who can’t stay still for photos all the way up to surly teenagers that can’t believe mom still wants them to pose for photos. Give me all the back to school photos!
Last year, a friend made a little felt pennant for her preschooler to hold, and it was adorable. I thought it would be fun to design a printable set for you! These printable first day of school pennants include three versions (plain, burst, and stars) and five colors (teal, pink, navy, purple, and black) so you can choose which is best for your kiddo!

How to Assemble the Printable First Day of School Pennants
Choose which flag you want to make. They are sized to print—they’ll be about 8.5″ wide after the dowel is added. I printed on a light cardstock—thicker than printer paper, but still easy to curl around the dowel.
Once printed, cut long the edge of the pennant. I used my paper trimmer to get nice, crisp edges.
Then wrap the vertical edge of the pennant around a dowel and glue using a hot glue gun.
If desired, add ribbons or tassels to the dowel as extra decoration!
Love this font? It’s called Selfie! It also cuts beautifully on a Cricut or other cutting machine.
