DIY Peel & Stick Activity Sheets

Can you guess what we used to create these completely custom peel and stick activity sheets? If you guessed Liquid Sculpey, you are exactly right! You’re probably very familiar with Sculpey’s polymer clay, but if you haven’t already given their liquid formula a try, this project is the perfect excuse to test it out. Not only is it really fun to use in bakeable silicone molds (like we did for this resin-free alphabet set) but you can also bake Liquid Sculpey on a piece of glass to make your own custom window clings – and that’s exactly what we did for this peel & stick activity! Instead of attaching the shapes to a window though, we created these printable activity sheets that, once laminated, act as a reusable surface for all your fun Liquid Sculpey peel & stick shapes!

After picking out a few of your favorite printables (get the free downloads below!) print them out, and laminate them with either the self-adhesive laminating sheets or with a traditional laminator. When baked on glass in the oven, the Liquid Sculpey shapes will cling to glass or in this case laminated activity sheets. Arrange and rearrange your custom Liquid Sculpey shapes onto the sheets to create different flower arrangements, colorful quilts in a variety of patchwork patterns, or a wide range of emotions and expressions!

This year, Sculpey has four new colors being released: Emerald Metallic, Glow in the Dark, Amethyst Pearl, and Multi-chromatic Purple. We loved how the two purple shades looked together, so used them on one of the quilt activity sheets. We also made our own third color to go along with them, using pink alcohol ink and purple glitter! Sculpey’s new mixing cup set came in super handy for this – you can mix everything together in the oven-safe silicone cup, and add in glitter with the scoop end of the stir stick. After pouring the Liquid Sculpey onto the glass, pop the cup in the oven too – any leftover Liquid Sculpey in the cup will harden and can be peeled right out, with no messy cleanup.

what you need:

how-to:

Step 1
Open a bottle of Liquid Sculpey. If you’re going to be using the color as is, use the dual end stir stick to stir the contents inside the bottle.

If mixing colors, first stir up the base color (here we used white) in the bottle and then pour the desired amount into the oven-safe silicone cup. Clean the stir stick and then stir up the second color of Liquid Sculpey still in the bottle. Add this color to the silicone cup as well.

Stir until completely mixed and you’re happy with the color. If the Liquid Sculpey seems thick, add a drop of Liquid Sculpey Clay Softener and stir. Continue adding a drop or two at a time, and then stirring, until the consistency is runny and easy to work with.

Step 2
Prep your work space: preheat your oven to 275F, line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and place your clean glass panel on top. Pour the Liquid Sculpey onto the glass.

Use the flat scoop end of the stir stick to spread out the Liquid Sculpey over the glass surface, keeping the thickness as even as possible all over. We found that a thickness of about 1/16” was ideal, and anything thicker than ⅛” becomes difficult to cut precisely with scissors.

Use the pointed end of the stir stick to pop any air bubbles on the surface.

Step 3
Put the baking sheet in the oven for 15 minutes at 275F. If using the silicone cup, you can pop this on the baking sheet too for easy clean up! Once done, let cool completely.

Step 4
Peel the cooled Liquid Sculpey sheet off from the glass. In the same way, peel the excess Liquid Sculpey out of the silicone cup before using again.

Step 5
Use scissors to cut out shapes from the cooled Liquid Sculpey sheets. You can eyeball this and cut fun shapes as you go or sketch them out on paper first to make simple templates. Use chalk to trace the templates onto the Sculpey – the chalk wipes right off afterwards leaving no marks behind. You can also use a screw punch to cut small circle details.

Step 6
Print and laminate your selected activity sheets. Arrange the Liquid Sculpey shapes on the sheet, sticking and resticking to make different arrangements (or faces, or quilt designs!) Store the shapes and sheets in an envelope, pouch, or container until next use to keep them all together.
