The laundry room before is boring, ordinary and not a place I wanted to be! Since laundry is simply a part of my life and something that needs to be done I needed to change the space into something more appealing!

DIY Time!

I started by removing the ugly wire shelving. I patched the holes because I would be adding floating shelves.

Adding wood shelving is a great way to update your laundry room and make it more functional. They are cheaper than cabinets and they make things super easy to access. Additionally, you can also use them as a space to add pretty accent decor!

Floating shelves are super sleek and custom looking and are cheaper than you think. There are a few ways you can install them. I chose to make my own wood brackets so I could customize the depth of the shelves. You can also use metal brackets. I used maple plywood to cover the pine brackets I created. One 4′ x 8′ sheet gave me two beautiful, long shelves.

The maple wood’s grain/color is gorgeous. I love the natural look so I didn’t bother to add any kind of paint or colored stain to them. You can watch the whole process here! I did use a matte poly acrylic to seal them to make cleaning easier. Changing the shelving alone can upgrad the look of the room so much and now it was time to decorate it!

Decorating Time!

I tried my best to shop my home, with the whole coronavirus thing it was kinda necessary. I used eucalyptus stems I had and added them to A beautiful ceramic vase I got from Hobby Lobby, and my diy drink soap dispenser. It works good I will say the flow is slower than the laundry soap pump but I think it looks so much better on the shelf!

I also created a few pieces and love the way they look styled on the shelves. I added a ceramic bowl to hold my lint balls and these beautiful wood cut letters from Nikki!

The opposite wall needs to be functional as well so I added this small pullout drying rack from Amazon that could work in a closet as well. I added thrifted shutters with wall tins and eucalyptus in them.  The focal point for the room was the wood letters saying laundry today or naked tomorrow! Nikki did an amazing job bringing my vision to life. You can choose from lots of fonts on her site to fit your style! I wanted to add a little accent to them so I chose to use my Arteza paint pens to color them a rich brown color!

Hidden storage utilizing every area!

Behind the door I added a broom holder and my vacuum charger/holder so I wouldn’t see them when the door was open nor did those items have to clutter up some other part of my laundry room. Hidden storage for the win!

I don’t feel like the space looks the same at all!  It’s so beautiful to be in and it’s also very functional! Some people say why add decor to the laundry room but why not make the space beautiful if you can! This whole makeover cost me about $150.
