I wanted to create something to get into the Fourth of July spirit, and these turned out to be exactly what I was envisioning. Not over the top, but a subtle nod to the holiday.
And the thing I love most about these beaded bracelets is that they’re easily customized to any occasion that you like, or just for everyday wear.

Ways to Customize DIY Beaded Bracelets
I mentioned before that one of my favorite things about our DIY beaded bracelets is that there are so many ways to customize them! Read on for a little inspiration before you create your own.
Wording. The number one way to make these your own is to add words that mean something to you! I made mine say “Hope” and “Vote” because those are concepts that are dear to me. But make yours say whatever you like.
Add a Name. These DIY beaded bracelets would make particularly sweet gifts if you personalized them with the recipient’s name.
Color. I stuck with a gold, white, and blue color scheme, but give some other colors a go! In our bead source section down below, you can find links to lots of different colors of beads.
Style and Pattern. Try various patterns with your beads as you’re creating your design. Alternate large and small, mix up colors, and add a variety of shapes. A stack of DIY beaded bracelets looks really good when there is variety.
The Best Beading materials To Create DIY Bracelets
To create these DIY bracelets, there are a few materials I love and recommend. Otherwise, you can go on a bead shopping spree to find your favorite beads! See my recommendations below.
Clear Bead Cord. I really like the Stretch Magic clear bead cord in the .5 mm size. I find that it holds knots well, has a nice amount of stretch, and one roll goes a long way. Do make sure that you pre-stretch the cord before you bead your bracelet, as otherwise you’ll end up with some slack once you put it on your wrist.
Alphabet Beads. There are a huge variety of beads to choose from, but here are a few of my favorites! The white beads you see here are these (they also come in a set with black). This set comes with lots of rainbow options also, which might be fun for kiddos.
Star Beads. These happened to work perfectly for a Fourth of July theme but there are plenty of colors and ways to use them.
Enamel Alphabet Beads. These would create a different look for your DIY beaded bracelets, but I got some to try on some other ideas! They’re incredibly colorful and charming. And this style is great for something on the smaller side but still colorful.
DIY Beaded Bracelet Styling Ideas
I think that the beaded bracelet lends itself really well to stacking, mixing, and matching.
In the photos here, I mixed the three bracelets I made with three bracelets that I already had. I think there are a few little tricks to mixing bracelets to make a great stack.
First, I like to choose a general palette and stick with that. Here, I chose gold, white, and blue.
Secondly, I like to mix sizes, shapes, and materials. There’s a bit of everything in this bracelet stack — gold chain, seed beads, stone beads, and our DIY beaded bracelets.
And finally, just make sure it’s comfortable and feels like you! Shake your wrist around after you have everything on and make sure that it feels good on your arm.
How to Make DIY Beaded bracelets for Fourth of July Or Any Day
Now let’s make some DIY beaded bracelets!
Materials
- Plan the design for your DIY beaded bracelets. I like to lay out beads in order on a piece of fabric (so they don’t roll away) to help envision how they’ll look.
- Cut a length of bead cord and give it a pre-stretch to stretch it out a bit. I like to cut the cord a few inches longer than necessary to leave some room on either end for stringing on beads. Start adding beads to your cord.
- Once you have the desired amount of beads on your cord, test it on your wrist to make sure the fit is right. I like the beads to meet with just a bit of slack around my wrist.
- Once you confirm that the length is correct, tie your knots. I’ve included a diagram below that works really well with the bead cord that I’ve linked here. I like to use the surgeon’s knot but a triple overhand knot also works well.
- Add a dab of glue to the knot to secure it, and allow to dry.
- Trim off the ends, and make more bracelets!
