With Thanksgiving just under a week away, I thought it would be a great time to share some classic thanksgiving entertaining inspiration. I had a pleasure of styling this fall spread in partnership with Drees Homes in their new Finley model in Westlake, OH.
My goal was to compliment the moody, yet inviting kitchen of the Finley model with timeless, neutral details that evoked the feeling of fall. The kitchen is truly the heart of the home, so I made sure to turn the spacious kitchen island into a beautiful dinner buffet where guests could serve themselves. I decided to stick with a classic dinner spread, including turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, rolls and my personal favorite, pumpkin pie! Along with the food, I included a “gather” sign, some fresh florals, white pumpkins and also made sure to vary the heights of the serving dishes, which is a great way to add visual interest.
Adjacent to the kitchen, I styled a cozy, fall dinner table. The table design featured woven placemats, a linen table runner, ivory plaid napkins, leather napkin rings, fresh florals and caramel apple placecards. Behind the table, I hung a simple “thankful” burlap banner that added just enough fall festive style to the space.
If you are hosting Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving this year, here are a few quick tips for classic thanksgiving entertaining:
- Shop what you own first! Before heading out to the store, take inventory of what you already have. It is great to use classic dinnerware such as white dinner plates, and simple wine glasses, and then layer in textured placemats and linen napkins to add some color and style.
- Less is more. I’m very inspired by modern minimalist design lately, and found myself gravitating towards this same approach when styling my thanksgiving gathering this year. Cozy neutrals, and textured details are a great way to evoke the feeling of fall without being too literal or over the top.
- Incorporate fresh florals if you can! In my opinion, there really is no substitute for fresh florals, however this doesn’t mean you need to break the bank! Get creative with styling bundles of florals and greenery from the grocery store. My personal favorites to include in my designs are usually fresh eucalyptus and seasonal roses!
- Stock up on to-go containers so you can easily send your guests home with leftovers!
I hope you all have a safe and wonderful thanksgiving this year!
