5 Thrifty Ways to Decorate Your Home For Less Than $100

3 Mins read

My entire mantra (the sole reason I started My Creative Days in the first place) is that you don’t have to spend a gazillion dollars to have a beautiful home. Saving money while decorating your home doesn’t mean your home will be boring and have no style. It is just the opposite. I am talking about decorating it beautifully, adding sophistication, and in your style. You can decorate your home exactly how you want without breaking the bank. Today, I am sharing 5 thrifty ways to decorate your home for less than $100.

5 Thrifty Ways to Decorate Your Home For Less Than $100

  • Paint

Paint is my favorite tool when it comes to decorating. I am not just talking about painting the walls in your spaces either. Painting a room makes a big change for little money, but think beyond the four walls of your space. What about just painting a feature wall? Maybe add some paint to the back of some bookshelves in the room. Paint could be the change a piece of furniture really needs. Paint can change so many things in a space without spending a lot of money. It is the one thing that gives you the biggest difference for the littlest investment. Afraid you will choose the wrong paint color? I wrote a post all about how to pick the right paint color every time HERE. It will give you the tips and tricks needed to ensure you get the right color every time.

  • Inexpensive Furniture Finds

I know that furniture is the area that most people think you have to splurge on. I disagree. There are many ways to find furniture for a lot less and still get the most beautiful, most comfortable furniture for your home. My #1 tip is to always shop at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, Restore, etc. I understand if you don’t want to buy upholstered pieces from places like this, but they are fantastic for finding really good wood furniture pieces for CHEAP! Think end tables, dining room tables and chairs, benches, coffee tables, hutches, bookshelves, dressers, entertainment centers, etc. You can find well-made furniture (that is hard to find in new furniture these days) inside these places and make them over to fit your style. Or, just give them a good cleaning and leave them as they are.

For upholstered pieces like sofas, living room chairs, etc. think outside of the box. Obviously, shop sales in your favorite stores, but search on sites like Spoken to find better deals on the pieces you love. I have been amazed by this site. If you find a piece of furniture you love online, head over to Spoken, and they will find the exact same piece and tell you if you can get it cheaper somewhere else. There are also outlet stores for some of the most popular furniture brands if you are lucky enough to live near one of those. I love to check out stores like Home Goods and TJ Maxx for great deals on upholstered furniture pieces.

  • Shop For Inspiration, Not To Buy

Have you ever walked into your favorite home store and saw something and thought, “I could make that?” I have done it so many times. I don’t buy much inside retail stores because a lot of times, I know we can replicate it at home. Shop all of your favorite stores for inspiration, not to buy. When you see something you like, see if it would be easy to replicate for a lot less. You would be amazed at what you can come up with and even more amazed with the money you save. Browsing stores and online for inspiration is one of my favorite things to do.

  • Rearrange – the thrifty way to decorate your home that costs nothing!

Rearrange the decor and furniture you already have. Move things to different rooms. Put rugs in different spaces. Hang artwork on different walls. Try it. Really! You will be amazed at how different a room looks and feels by doing this. This is completely free and will give you a totally different look and feel.

  • Add Dimension & Character

Sometimes spaces and walls just feel boring and one-dimensional. You can change this by buying a few boards and/or wood to add things like shiplap, a geometric design, wainscotting, board and batten, etc. There are many different wall treatments that can be accomplished by adding a few pieces of wood to them. It is little money spent but makes a big statement in the space you add it to.

I hope these thrifty ways to decorate your home for under $100 have given you some ideas you haven’t thought about.
